Finding Lorch.

The Good Friday service is in Lorch Hall.  Unless you are Tanya Byker, you may not be all that familiar with this location.  There are a couple of bits of information you should be aware of.

First of all, the address is 611 Tappan.  It's the second building on your left when you head down Tappan from S. University. However, the entrance which faces Tappan is not the main entrance and it's far from the best entrance for finding Lorch Auditorium.

Which brings us to the second important bit of information. In gold letters above the door to Lorch Auditorium it says Askwith Auditorium.  Askwith Auditorium and Lorch Auditorium are, in fact, the same auditorium.

That said, here are directions:

FROM THE FOREST STREET PARKING STRUCTURE (just south of South University): Take Willard Street, which runs along the south end of the parking structure, and proceed west to East University. Take a left onto E. University and then after a few strides a right onto the walkway on the south side of the School of Education. Follow this walkway to the end. (Construction will be on your left, the entrance to Lorch Hall on your right.)

FROM CENTRAL CAMPUS: Take the walkway off of South University between Church St. and Tappan (across from Shapiro Library, running between the School of Social Work on the left and Martha Cook on the right). Enter through the north east corner of the building found at the end of the walkway on your right. The entrance to the auditorium (Askwith Auditorium) is found a few steps inside the entrance on your left.

Sponsor a Family

All of these items were donated plus aproximently 200 dollars worth of gift cards! Thank you all very much for making one familys Christmas Blessed.

This Christmas Campus Chapel is giving back to the community by sponsoring a family. This is a great way to show our love to the community, and for us to give back for all that we have been given. With the money the family will save, they will be able to fix their car that has been out of commission for a year. This will give them back the freedom of transportation. Their will be a box at the back of the Chapel for donations and also a list of items needed which will also be included in this post.
The items and money will be collected December 15th and then will be wrapped and given to the family for Christmas. Any questions contact Heidi Vanderwerff at heidinb@gmail.com.

podcasting the chapel

Arden’s been getting up around quarter to six lately.  Since Elizabeth responds to cries of distress in the middle of the night, it’s my job to get up with her and let Elizabeth sleep. So, after throwing on some clothes, I simply strap her into the backpack carrier, put on my iPod; and we head out into the still dark morning for a long walk.

I could say that it’s this time with my daughter that makes these mornings enjoyable.  That wouldn’t be a total lie.  But the fact is I love my iPod.  As night gradually turns into day, I listen to podcasts of sermons from, among other places, Mars Hill, Church of the Servant, and Duke Chapel.  Various colleges and universities post campus lectures on iTunes and I’ve downloaded a bunch of them.  NPR combines the previous week’s religion stories into a podcast.  The New Yorker has a podcast of people reading short essays from the magazine.  Just when I think I’ve exhausted all the good stuff out there, I come across more great stuff.

My iPod has actually made me more helpful around the house.  Listening to it makes, say, doing dishes less of a chore.  The other night, I spent two hours trying to find where Arden had hidden it because cleaning the kitchen without it seemed like such a waste of time. (No need to point out the irony of this.  Elizabeth alerted me already.)

You can, therefore, see why I am pleased to announce that the Chapel now has a podcast of its Sunday sermons.  (Am I wrong to assume that there aren’t millions– or at least thousands of people out there longing for stuff to fold laundry to?) There are still bugs to be worked out, but, if you search "Campus Chapel of Ann Arbor," you can find it at iTunes.

Anyway, I hope you’ll check it out.  You can subscribe here  I especially recommend checking out "The Butterfly Effect"– some thing that Devin Kerr and I created this summer.  I’d love your feedback on it since we’re hoping to create more.
